Easily create all kinds of survey forms through our intuitive yet powerful tool. With the help of our question library you can also easily re-use questions or entire sections from your previous forms when preparing for new surveys.
The formbuilder was built from the ground up to be simple and easy for anyone to use. It doesn't require any technical knowledge or advanced training. Yet, it also allows for building the most complex and advanced forms. This means it is meant for anyone from a first time user to the most advanced survey administrator.
Under the hood KoBoToolbox uses the extremely versatile XLSForm standard. This means our forms are 100% compatible with other popular tools. It also means our forms can be exported to and imported from Excel for advanced technical users doing batch manipulation.
Good survey forms are often built by re-using tried and true questions from previous surveys. Our question library makes this process easy and straightforward. This feature is being further expanded in the coming months to allow sharing entire question libraries with colleagues or even make them available publicly.

Quickly and reliably collect your survey data on any device, online or offline. Our Android app, based on OpenDataKit, uses the power and experience of of hundreds of thousands of interviews conducted all over the world. Our webforms integration, based on Enketo, also allows collecting data on iPhones, laptops, or any other device.

Collected information is stored safely. Synchronization via SSL ensures that your data can't be read by a third party. Strong safeguards exist also for avoiding data loss even during very long interviews.

KoBoToolbox is a suite of tools for field data collection for use in challenging environments. Our software is free and open source. Most of our users are people working in humanitarian crises, as well as aid professionals and researchers working in developing countries. Our team of developers and researchers are based in Cambridge, MA and many other places around the world.
Quickly collecting reliable information in a humanitarian crisis – especially following a natural disaster such as a large earthquake or a typhoon taking place in a poor country – is the critical link to saving the lives of the most vulnerable. Understanding the population’s needs is often neglected for lack of quick means to gather and analyze this crucial information. KoBoToolbox, developed by the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, is an open source suite of tools for data collection and analysis in humanitarian emergencies and other challenging environments that was built to address this gap. KoBoToolbox is funded entirely through generous grants and donations from our partners.
In September 2014 we launched a significant new phase of our KoBoToolbox software suite in coordination with the United Nations and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to make electronic data collection more standardized, more reliable, and easier to use in humanitarian crises. Many additional features are still being added to the software every week to make the products more useful and relevant to a growing number of people. If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions, don't hesitate to get in touch.
